What is EIFS?
Exterior Insulation and Finish System. It is also known as synthetic stucco or dryvit. It is composed of foam-insulation board, fiber-glass mesh, a primus base coat, and a colored acrylic finish. It is more lightweight and cost effective than stucco. With proper installation it can remain beautiful for many decades.
When is EIFS appropriate?
It can be used on almost any building or home. It is a low cost durable siding that adds insulation and beauty to a pre-existing or new structure.
Is installing EIFS easy?
EIFS is not sold in retail stores and should only be installed by experienced competent professionals. It is a common misconception that EIFS installation doesn’t require an expert professional. The installation process is crucial to the longevity of the system.
What is the difference between EIFS and stucco?
EIFS is the synthetic lightweight version of stucco. It’s cheaper, easier to install, and has unlimited design options. Stucco is stronger but doesn’t allow as much freedom of design, and it is more complicated and time consuming to install.
